VIDEOGRAPHERS & FILMMAKERS · CANADA

Filmmaker sites that play the work first.

Websites for videographers, cinematographers and small production studios, built in Calgary. The films lead, the filmmaker follows, and every screen ends at an enquiry.

02 · THE STANCE

A reel on YouTube is not a website.

Couples and brand managers decide in the first film they watch. Most filmmaker sites make them hunt for it, behind a slider, a stock hero and an embed that stalls on a phone. The site has to put the films first and load them fast, say what kind of work you take on, and keep the enquiry one tap from the film.

Answered straight

What a videographer website has to do

It plays the work before it says anything. The first screen is film, selected and cut for the site rather than a long reel, prepared so it starts quickly on a phone. Behind it sits the work by kind, weddings, brand, athletes, architecture, each with the films that prove it, then the filmmaker, then a project form that asks what is being filmed, where and when, so the first reply is a real answer.

Jesse Media is the live example. The site for Calgary cinematographer Jesse Rostotski opens on a scroll-controlled 3D camera that leads into his brand, athlete, wedding and architecture films, with a persistent viewer so a visitor can move between projects without leaving the page. On a phone every screen offers the same two routes, watch the work or start a project, and his profile introduces the person behind the films before anyone gets in touch.

Meridian15 builds these sites from Calgary for filmmakers and production studios across Canada, and makes film, photography and post-production for its own clients in-house, so the build is made by people who shoot and cut. Every build is quoted to its scope in writing before work starts, and the filmmaker owns the site outright. The full case is on the portfolio.

03 · THE WORK

One filmmaker’s site, frame by frame.

The Jesse Media site on a phone and the filmmaker’s own page. The films themselves play on jessemedia.ca.

04 · WHAT GETS BUILT

Four things a filmmaker site needs.

Scoped as one build, whether the site is a clean grid or a 3D showcase like Jesse’s.

01

Film first, fast on a phone

Selected cuts made for the site, each with a poster frame and a stream sized for the screen it plays on. The first film should start before a visitor thinks about leaving.

02

The work by kind

Weddings, brand, athletes, architecture, each with the films that prove it and the questions that client asks. A couple should not have to scroll past a car commercial to find a wedding.

03

The filmmaker, in person

People hire a person for a shoot. A profile with a face, the kinds of projects taken on and how a shoot runs does the introduction before the first call.

04

An enquiry that briefs the shoot

What is being filmed, where and when. Jesse’s form asks for exactly that, so the first reply can be a plan and a quote rather than a round of questions.

05 · ANTI-PATTERNS

What keeps a filmmaker’s site from booking.

Five mistakes that show up on videographer sites. Each one costs the enquiry at the moment the visitor was ready to send it.

01

One long reel on the homepage

A four-minute montage asks for four minutes nobody gives it. Short, selected films by kind of work get watched, and the right one gets watched to the end.

02

Embeds that stall on a phone

Most visitors arrive on a phone. A heavy player with no poster frame shows a black box for seconds, and the visitor is gone before the first frame.

03

No page for the work you want more of

If weddings pay the bills and brand work is where you want to grow, the site needs a page that shows brand work to the people who hire for it. One gallery for everything sells nothing in particular.

04

The filmmaker is missing

A site of films with no person behind them reads like a stock library. Clients book people, and the profile is often the page that decides it.

05

An enquiry form with no date

Without the date, the place and the kind of shoot, the first reply is a question. With them, it can be an answer and a quote.

[ 06 · THE PROCESS ]

How a filmmaker site build actually runs.

Four phases with named deliverables. The films are chosen and cut first, because the site is built to show them.

07 · FAQ

Questions, answered.

Who builds websites for videographers and filmmakers in Calgary?

Meridian15 does. The studio designed and built the site for Calgary cinematographer Jesse Rostotski, Jesse Media, which opens on a scroll-controlled 3D camera into his brand, athlete, wedding and architecture films and ends every screen at a project enquiry. It builds for filmmakers and production studios across Canada.

What should a videographer’s website include?

Short films selected and cut for the site, prepared to start quickly on a phone, the work organized by kind, a profile of the filmmaker, and a project form that asks what is being filmed, where and when. Links to the films on the site itself, not only to YouTube or Vimeo.

Can you build a 3D or interactive portfolio site?

Yes. The Jesse Media site uses a scroll-controlled 3D camera that leads into the film showcase, with a persistent viewer so visitors move between projects without leaving the page. A clean, fast grid is also an option, and the audit says which one suits the work.

Will a video-heavy website load fast on a phone?

It will when the video is prepared for the web. Each film gets a poster frame, a stream sized for the screen it plays on, and nothing loads until it is needed. Most visitors arrive on a phone, so the build is tested there first.

Do you build websites for wedding videographers and photographers?

Yes. Weddings are one of the four kinds of film on the Jesse Media site. The same structure, the work by kind, the person behind it, and an enquiry that asks for the date and the venue, works for wedding videographers and photographers.

Can you shoot or edit the films as well?

Yes. Meridian15 runs production and post-production in-house for its own clients, and can cut the selects for your site from your existing footage or shoot new work where it is scoped.

What does a videographer website cost?

Every build is quoted to its scope after a short audit, one fixed number in writing before work starts. The number of films, a 3D or interactive build, and any editing move the number. There is no rate card.

Do you work with filmmakers outside Calgary?

Yes. The studio is in Calgary and Jesse Media is a Calgary filmmaker, but the site, the copy and the search setup ship anywhere in Canada.
